Trying too hard to do too many things means you have less time for each thing and so you give less thought to each thing. When I got 10 e-mails a day, it was easy to answer them fully and thoughtfully. Now I get 50 to 60 and I barely have time to type one very terse sentence in response to each. Also, when you're too busy, you don't have time really to THINK...small nuances escape you, you don't explore the question or the answer completely. If I had more time, I wouldn't make as many mistakes. I'm as careful as I can be, but it isn't good enough, not as good as it was 5 years ago when I had less work and more time.
