What is a good and fairly cheap choice?

You first should consider the type work the man does and will he be wearing the ring while working! Silver is a soft metal and will bend totally out of shape,say if the guy were a truck driver or a construction worker and wore the ring while working it wouldn't';t last very long! the same with thin gold rings. The silver is softer than gold but if it were very thick it might withstand a little abuse! While the price of gold and silver are pretty spendy at present I would suggest going to a pawn shop! or a resell store, once the jewelry is cleaned and polished it will look good as new!
