Yes, you can. I would recommend that you take a more natural form of iron to help your body absorb it better and so you don't have as many problems with constipation. Go to your health food store and ask about a chelated iron supplement. Blackstrap molassas iron tablets work really well, that's what I took.

Floradix is a good option.

Another option is to take chlorophyll.

Talk to the people at the health food store and they will point you towards these different options. They'll probably have all 3 in stock.

I am talking One Source prenatal vitamins that you can get basically anywhere I got my at Wal-mart and they are really small pills. I don't have a problem taking the larger pills but I have to say these are the smallest I have ever seen and I can even take them without water. This is a question I would ask my OB, too much iron can cause problems for the baby and not enough can also so I would just get with the doctor and see what he/she says.

Your doctor can prescribe an iron supplement. I am taking a prescription for anemia along with my prenatal vitamins. You need to take prenatal vitamins too, call your doctor and ask if there is another vitamin available that wouldn't be so big. I would get a prescription for the iron supplement because iron pills can be constipating and you don't need to add to that problem when you are pregnant. New formulas are available by prescription that aren't as constipating.

I have never been anemic - normally, but when I got pregnant both times with my daughters, I became borderline anemic in my 2nd trimesters. So, my doctor put me on iron pills along with my prenatal vitamins. Be careful though, iron is very constipating, so since I was only borderline - I was allowed to take them every other day instead of daily. So, to answer your question, you can take iron pills during pregnancy, but make sure you check with your doctor first.

You would need to ask your doctor becuase the dosage in your prenatal may be less then what is in what you are trying to take. You may just have to suck it up and take the pills regardless of the taste. I know too much iron can make you constipated. Good Luck that really sucks!

Talk with your doctor. And as far as halfing the pills, do avoid tasting them, try putting the water or fluid in your mouth first, tilt your head back and drop the pill in your throat and then swallow. You shouldn't taste it then. I wouldn't take your prenatals and the iron pills together though because too much iron will make you vomit as well.

Yes, you're supposed to.

Keep in mind, some women get sick from taking iron, so if you have that symptom, talk to your doctor about getting a prescription for chewable vitamins or something easier to digest or simply to take. Cutting pills never worked for me, either. Tell your doctor, s/he can prescribe or recommend something different. You might like the chewable vitamins.

Also, try blackstrap molasses (can get it from any health food store). You take a teaspoon a day; they are full of iron and might be easier for you than pills.

You can take get the chewable prenatal vitamins. They do not taste that bad. I took them my first pregnancy. I am able to swallow pills now, so I take the regular kind now. I have problems swallowing them also. They are way to big. Iron is important for your babies blood and bones.

ASk your doctor or Pharmacist if there is a smaller one that you can take that has the same ammount of iron in them. Sometimes taking too much iron can be bad for the baby.
