The SI unit system was introduced to try and produce a standardised set of measurements that could be used throughout the world.

There are a number of websites that will give you advice on dates, times, and explain probably better than I the SI unit system. See below list of websites for more information.

1.) To create a standardized set of units throughout the world.
2.) Said standardized set of units should require a minimum amount of conversion between units. For example:

The base SI unit for mass is kg, for time is seconds, and for distance is meter.

The derived SI unit for force is the Newton, which is conveniently 1 kg * m/s^2.

Conversely, if you use the English system of units to determine force, you get a headache from all the conversion rates.

I think it is because more countries in the world adopt the european system which is SI system / units. This is due to a vast territories being colonialized by the europeans in the past.

Another reason is for the sake of convenience to communicate esp in the scienctific and engineering world.

Because thing like english units and other units have caused tens of billions of dollars in damages. SI SHOULD be the only unit. People make stupid mistakes converting, we all do.
