This is because of the culture. This new generation does not appreciate music like we did before. You know what is funny, rap was never intended to be like it is today. Originally, rap was a DJ that actually created music from his heart. It was not a conventional instrument, but nevertheless it was a difficult task and proposed allot of talent. Now the DJ never talked or anything, he just played his music, there were no lyrics. The DJ would hire an announcer to get the crowd excited. This person would come up and talk to the crowd before the DJ started. That evolved to the announcer talking to the crowd while the DJ was playing and now we have the crap that has plagued our radio waves. I do not know why people are so intrigued by it. I prefer something that an artist devoted his heart and soul into. Hopefully this is just a phase that will slowly go away. I am pretty sure it isn't, but hey, it doesn't hurt to dream right?

They do make their own music. They use their voice to perform it and the beat is done on keyboards which also require some musical talent. A lot of electronic and techno bands do the same thing.

Anything can be music. You just havn't opened your mind to different styles of it. Now the things they are singing about is a different story but you can't say it's fake because it's not and even though they may not always sing in musical notes, there are a lot of rappers who use complicated patterns in forming their words to match the music behind it. Also the ability to rhyme so many words in some cases can be impressing.

I think that's a hasty generalization. There are many rappers who do not promote sex and conspicous consumption. Some are:

Common
Mos Def
Talib and Kweli
KRS One
Public Enemy

Rap is popular because it targets a large market segment including:

Black people
Anyone living in an inner city
Anyone seeking enlightenment on political issues
People who like the bass lines
On and on....

The same could be said for rock music. Korn, Pantera, Slipknot and others tend to glorify violence. Are they killing music as well. I think not. Music is merely creative expression and appeals to people who relate to its message.

Just because you can't relate to rap doesn't mean it doesn't have a place in the music arena. Who died and made you king of the world?

they aren't fakes you suckass idiot and they do have talent even though some ****-heads wont accept it and a lot of rap songs do "come from the heart of the composer" I'd like to see you get up on stage and rap! that would prove you do need talent to do it well. I like U2 also but I think Eminem is better and most of his songs are political, funny, or about his life. hardly I dont think any of his songs are like the ones you described. Even in the videos when he is with "babes" its meant to be funny not cocky. its popular because this type of music appeals to some people because of its rythem, lyrics, etc., I'm not saying you have to like it but you should respect that most of these rappers do, in fact, have talent

image is everything

bump this music, get this girl

look like this, get this girl

act like this, get this girl

and btw, its not just the rappers making the videos look the way they do (A & R, record labels, etc). This formula has worked since the days of hair metal. An extreme personality (be it permed/large-haired dude in a gold unitard or a perceived "thug" rockin 2 x size clothes covered in jewlery) surrounded by riches and women. Guys love it because they want that and girls like because they think its what the guys want.

America likes tracks that don't require a lot of thinking and stuff they can recognize. Just look at all the crap on the (Clear channel) radio and MTV. Unfortunately, this passes as music to most people.

That is your opinion and you are entitled too it however, they are some good rappers out there.

Everybody has different taste in music, I like all types of music.. Some rap music I like and they are others that really suck. Rock is OK but some really suck too. Pop is pretty good and some suck also.

My point that I am trying to make is if you do not like the music, don't listen too it. You have that choice, this is the reason there is different radio stations so that you can make a choice to listen to what you like.

Honestly, I have no idea. I have been trying to figure it out myself. I've found that there are a few rappers that do rap about things that they have really experienced. But others just see things and make songs about it. I can't stand rap videos with chicks and cars and stuff like that. It makes all girls look like sluts.
