1, Combustion - a chemical reaction (oxydation) giving off heat and light (example: fire)

2. Incandescence - emitting light as a body is heated (example: glow of a stove hot plate)

3. Flourescence - light emitted as electrons that are driven by ultraviolet light to higher energy levels and cascade down to lower energy levels releasing visible light (e.g. the glow of certain types of clothing in a night club using "black lights" (ultraviolet light)

4. Phosphorescence - similar to fluoescence except that the falling electrons must first flip their magenetic spin before falling to a lower energy level to emit their light - this causes a delay in the emission of light (examples: anything "glow in the dark" such as those glow sticks they sell at fairs, glow in the dark watches etc.)

5. Nuclear reactions - example - the sun

Flashlight, matchstick, flint rock, candle, electricity (running current through wire) these all are examples of 2 main types of creating light.

1) Combustion (burning something, chemical, material)
2) Resistance (running current through metal)

All other light is natural.
