The PS3 should be backwards compatible with the PS2 games, much in the same way that the PS2 is backwards compatible with the PS1 games. The only difference here is that the PS3 is expected to use a blue laser whereas the PS1 and PS2 used a red laser.

I believe PlayStation 2 games are playable on the PlayStation 3. Much in the same way that the PlayStation games were playable on PlayStation 2.
My money's on the XBOX 360 anyway.

No. in specific situations a console can help play previous technologies video games, like the wii does with gamecube video games. however the PS3 would not even enable you to play PS2 video games. It does incorporate a Blue-ray participant thhough that could additionally play DVDs and CDs.

The PS3 will be backwards compatible, so of course it is worth it to buy PS2 games
P.S. Unless you live in Europe, the PS3 comes out on Nov. 19.

considering the PS3 console costs around £550, not many people will be buying it, so i'd keep on with the PS2 games and such cos I think they'l be around for longer than you think.
