You haven't factored in the real political movers and shakers - our Security Services and a very clandestine bunch they are - deciding who is and is not fit to stand as a member of Parliament and who makes the Party list for any political Party - Look up General sir John Nichols in Who's Who - ex intelligence services and one of the main characters who set up the Tory Party candidates list.
Methinks Charles Kennedy is far too much of an independent thinker to be tolerated easily by our manipulative political masters who have assumed power despite democracy or perhaps due to the lack of a democracy we currently have - after all Tonly Blair is reckoned to perhaps have been a 5 asset in Beaconsfield in 1982.
Whilst we have political parties which are so easily manipulated through the party apparatchiks we no longer have anything other than democracy lite or 'virtual.' Nothing changes whatever party gets into office - they all have their snouts in the trough and they all apply their blinkers so that their personal interests are not compromised. I suspect any politician who is brought down the way Kennedy was is about to do something which might upset the status quo and is therefore hounded from office.

Charles Kennedy is one of the few politicians who is highly respected and liked by the public, if not his own parliamentary party. I think he will take a high position in the party, but I don't think he will be leader again. From someone who is not a Lib supporter.

I think even "Ming" appreciates he is only a caretaker leader. While the next general election may be too soon I would expect Kennedy to be back for the following one. In the meantime he will continue his rehabilitation, become a member of the front bench followed by a shadow position. He will have to prove himself but I don't doubt that he is capable.

I think so. I actually thought about voting Lib Dem during his tenure, but since Ming's been doing his thing they look unelectable again. Don't know what they stand for, don't trust them to stay united - if Charlie can sort himself out I think he can bring the UK into three-party politics

I am Scottish and am not a liberal democrat.
I have never liked Kennedy's rather cultured Scottish accent.
Sorry that I have nothing really constructive to say.
Incidentally, why do you call yourselves "Lib -Dems" ?
Are you too lazy to call your party by its name ?
