OK; what if you do open it and read it? How do they know that you do that?

Only if they sent it to you receipt required... Very rarely done though...

Even then they don't know that you've deleted it they just know you haven't opened it yet...

In Outlook XP you can say no to sending the reciept when opening an email.

In previous versions of outlook there was no way to tell if you were sending a reciept.

Web based mail is much different then pop mail since the web based servers may or may not support sending reciept.

The answers is Yes unless the above situations make an exception.

No they cannot tell that you deleted it but AOL has a thing called a status check that shows the sender whether or not you read it.

If you on a intranet or home network yes the server or administrator can check but I don't think so because it can take a long time to find.from the Internet no not unless they have acces to your computer.
