The line of best fit is the one that minimizes the errors (or differences), between the values shown by the graph and the points. It emphasizes the relationship between the two variable (x and y) and also shows whether the points form a straight line or a curve.

There are several methods for finding the line of best fit, giving slightly different lines, but the preferred one is called least squares regression, which minimizes the squares of the differences on the y-axis. This is the method used in computers and electronic calculators.

Regression, or the fitting of lines to points, is one of the most useful and pleasant branches of mathematics and is used in all sciences.

The line of best fit is the line on a graph that is equa-distance, or closest to it from all of the points of a certain graph.

If you have a graphing calculator you can program it in, but I forget how.
