Fall is generally considered the best time of year to plant new trees and shrubs. Fall is a cool-moist season, followed by a dormant season, followed by another cool-moist season. It gives the plant a lot of time to establish a root system before the hot summer season, and all that stress.

Be sure to follow the directions that the nursery gives you in regard to planting, mulching and staking the tree.

Good luck-

What kind of magnolia???? The evergreen type (m. Grandaflora) can be planted anytime. The deciduous magnolia is best planted when it has lost its leaves.
