My sisters are out in a camp... they'll be coming back in about a week or so. I want to do something nice for them, they share room, one is 9 and the other one is 14, and they are completly diferent but they both hate their room, so I want to make-over it... I know what they like and stuff, but don't know how to put it toghether, the 14 year old loves pink and flowers and girly stuff like that, and the other one is more into bright colors and sufing, scatebording, and stuff like that, how can I put that together? Or shoud I make a fake wall, I'm only 16 so please no complicated and very expensive stuff... thnks!!

What a great thing you plan for your sisters. This should make you some brownie points for you when you guys reminisce in your old age.

Instead of a fake wall, how about a partial divider that starts at a wall, full highth, then, either tapers down quickly,(within a few inches, perhaps a foot) or steps down, eventually becoming a narrow, two sided bookcase, about two or three feet long. This will help define each of their "spaces," while still recogizing their shared environment. The bookshelves can be very narrow, (so they don't take up too much floor space) just wide enough to hold paperbacks or some knick knacks.

The tapered or stepped part can be trellised, or even made into aditional shelves. The higher shelves may be left open, like ledges, to hold lighter, or softer remembrances, like stuffed animals. Those shelves, or even the lower ones may be backed by transparent, or translucent materials. Perhaps attach a couple of goose necked lamps.

There should be no problem with walls being of different colors. Pick one wall that is clearly the nine year old's and the opposite as the fourteen year old's. You can unite the two different color schemes by laying out squares of different sizes, one wall with pink and pastel colors, the other wall filled in with bolder colors. Separate the squares by lining the borders with a bold, definitive black line, an inch or two wide.

Save money by buying three small, quart or half gallon cans of primary colors, and blend them to make other colors. Also buy a can of white, to blend and make the lighter pastel colors. Don't forget a can of black, for the lines.

The two "neutral" walls can remain white.

Find a favorite poster or print for each of them, (or buy them new, if you think you can pinpoint their likes) and have them matted and framed. The mats and frames can be of similar designs, to tie the two parts of the room together. If they already have pictures up, let them stay up. Don't worry about having these, or the two prints you have framed, interrupt the black lines. If fact, it may be better to do this deliberately.

Neither of these projects need to be expensive nor complicated.

Where the room splits draw a line. Paint each side according to their likes for color.
The one that likes skater stuff, put up some posters with skaters like Tony Hawk and such. Then try and find some things for her bed. Get a spread that would go well with the wall color. Then find some pillows that have like Skateboards or random odd things like that.
For the pink, naturally the wall should be pink, but paint flower border around it about half way up. Then paint a few extra flowers that are just above the line randomly. (You dont want too many). I would then try and find her a beadspread with probably a yellow or something so as to not make it Too overbearing on the pink. Find some Flower shaped pillows and frillze to throw on top of the bed.

First off, it's great that you're caring enough with your sisters that you want to do something thoughtful for them. You're a great older brother to them.
If your parents allow it paint one wall pink for an accent wall.
Look into posters of flowers and another one of surfing.
If you can locate some old skateboards you can make shelves out of them by screwing in a cleat (small wood piece attached to the wall and then screw the skateboard to the cleat.
Wallpaper could also be an option for boarders on the wall just below the ceiling.
Also look into throw rugs for each sister in their favorite colors.
Check with your mom on purchasing bedspreads and pillow covers for themed designed accents.

you could always use a hula theme. this could incorporate bright colors like yellow walls with pink tropical flowers either free hand drawn or stencilled over the yellow background.

you could use grass skirts as window treatments or maybe as a divider in the space so that each girl has a separate space of her own.

you could also us Hawaiian leis to give color around the room and to maybe tie back a simple set of curtains or across the top of window shades.

if your sister has a surfboard you could also use that as wall art.

hope this helps give you some inspiration and good luck. :)

Do them a beach theme. Posters, Lais, shells, you can get sheer flowing fabric really cheap and use it for curtains or a canopy over head, like a mosquito net. Get the picture. Paint the room pale blue like the sky & water. I think this will appeal to both girls. Put some surfing stuff up too. Lots o luck!

It'd actually probably be best to tell them when they come home that you're going to help them redo their rooms--I can tell you that if I came home from camp, and my brother redid my room, as nice as he intended to be, I'd be very upset. So once your sisters are home, tell them that you'd be willing to help. But some ideas for once they are home are:
For the younger one: One yellow wall, three darker red walls. Surfboard replicas could be attached to the wall, or posters of their favorite sports stars.
Girly one: Three pale pink walls, one white with pink candy diagonal stripes. But you'd want to ask your parents--a lot of this stuff requires redoing of furniture, too.

i think this is a very sweet thing to do!!!
what an awesome sister you must be!!

unfortunately i REALLY have no ideas, except for maybe just re-arranging it and cleaning it up really nicely...

sounds like 1 is a "girly" girl (pink/ flowers) while the other is on the "tomboyish" (surfing/skateboarding) side...
that does make a strange combination...

i truly wish you luck and hope that your sisters are just as greatful to you! as you are/were thoughtful enough to even make the effort to make them happy.

best wishes!

I don't think I would like somebody remaking my room while I'm gone. They might not want you bothering with their things.

Just make a giant welcome home card or something to show you missed them and to say welcome back.
