I guess I would have to pick two achivements (or more specifically inventions and/or discoveries) in relation to different times in the development of human kind:
-- The Wheel -- I think this is obvious with influences in transportation, communication, commerce, daily living, exploration, etc
-- The computer and networking (e.g. the internet) -- this has revolutionized the way we do all the above and reduced the level of effort; we have done more since the industrial revolution than throughout the rest of our time on Earth
