Grouted ceramic tiles are above the backsplash. I don't want to damage the tiles as they are no longer available. Looking under counters, I do not see any indication that the backsplash is screwed to the current top. There seems to be adhesive between the existing countertop and the backsplash.

cut or scrape the grout and/or caulking away between the back-splash and tiles
the counter top and backslash are 1 piece and is screwed in from the bottom,
look up inside the cabinets for the screw heads on the corner and cross braces
once you get all the screws out, it should just slide out

it's probably caulk between the granite and the counter and backsplash. you should be able to cut that with a utility knife without any problems. do you mean that you are removing the entire countertop, not just the laminate covering it (meaning that when you're done, you'll be able to look right down into your cabinet?) if so, just get under the countertop (you'll have to wiggle into the cabinets a bit) and see if it's screwed it anywhere, if so unscrew it. it should be attached along the perimeter with an adhesive. a little rocking and lifting and it should come right off. i did this and replaced my counters with pre-made laminate counters from home depot. it's actually a pretty easy project.

There is most likely an adhesive. You can try to peel it off if the glue is weakened. if not you may have to try and cut oyt a section and work it off in small pieces. You probably wont disturb the tile. The laminate probably goes to the tile edge not under it. You may havd to cut it off closely though. Its not hard I did this on my own counter, its time consuming and go slowly.
