I just bought a brand new battery and placed it in my car. (Pontiac Grand Am 2000 4-cylinder) My battery light is now coming on. What could be the reason for that?

Alternator, Battery light comes on because car is sensing there is not enough voltage, Alternator working at about 13 to 14 volts, 12 and under not working, just replace alternator should take care of problem.

Bad connection between battery and the connectors. You cleaned the connectors before installing right?

You got another bad battery. Take it back to the place you purchased it and have it tested.

Bad Alternator is not charging your new battery. You had the old battery tested before replacement I hope. Cuz your old battery may have been fine and just not charged/discharged by the alternator.

Before replacing the alternator, have it tested to be sure the alternator is bad. Most parts stores will test batteries and alternators for FREE!
