For a first soprano. I've sung in a choir all my life, but I'v had little voice training. We have only 20 measures to use! This will be my first time singing for a panel.

It depends on the show. If you can find a song from the show that you would be comfortable with that would be the best bet. "He Needs Me" and "Where is Love" from "Oiver" can show a good range.

Well, first of all good luck!
Secondly, it depends what sorta musical it is, if it's a traditional musical then something well within your range and not too complicated musically (so I'd advise steer well clear of Sondheim). Sing something that you know well. As it's only the first 20 measures (sorry I deal in bars I'm British!) if you choose a slow song it'll last longer! Something which demonstrates your range is always good, so Over the Rainbow, or I could have danced all night, might not be bad ideas!
If it's a modern style musical that's more rocky or poppy, why not choose a pop song?
If you're feeling really brave you could sing summertime, the original version was written for soprano and it's fairly high, not too hard, slow (so takes longer) the piano parts fairly easy too and the panel will know it and panels always like hearing something they know.
Again, good luck!

Okay, I'm a lapsed Baritone so my familiarity with songs is gone.

However, I've been stage-managing since 1981 and no offense to those who suggested it, BUT... "Tomorrow" from Annie is the MOST over-sung audition song.

I know of 2 directors who for childrens and young adult production auditions post a SIGN on the door that ANYONE who uses that will not be considered !! In 1986, I once sat thru a set of auditions and heard... TWENTY FIVE young ladies sing that... 25 out of 40. I darn near lost my mind.

"Adelaides Lament" oh wow... that is smart and funny... mostly spoken/sung... but nice.

"I Could Have Danced All Night"... very bright and charming
"You've Got to Be Carefully Taught" from South Pacific?

Well... whatever you select... sing, enjoy, and break a leg.

Ya really want to knock em dead? Go find some Ruby Slippers and belt one out like Dorothy singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
