Will they be worth anything when they turn into antiques in 50 years?

i'd imagine they'd be pretty worthless. for an antique to be valuable, it has to be rare. dvds are not rare.

I've heard that DVDs are designed to stop working after a number of years, just blink out.

Collectibility has to do with way too many factors to predict, but most folks usually go after something in the "nostalgia window" period. From 15 to 25 years after a thing was in vogue, it becomes collectible. check out Ebay if you don't believe me.

Words like antique and rare have to do with desirability. No collectors, not rare.
