I love the feel of black kneehighs under dress pants. It makes the pants just sorta swish around on your calves, your shoes fit better than dress socks, and it looks classier, in my opinion.
With a dress, every girl looks better in panyhose, because they cover a multitude of sins... LOL. And, again, just helps the whole look come together. It doesn't matter how cute the dress is if you have a bugbite on your ankle or a freaky tan line... People will focus on the flaws, and pantyhose hide them. :)

aren't pantyhose & stockings the same thing? i think what you're trying to ask is, "Pantyhose or TIGHTS"? pantyhose are very sheer (thin fabric, sometimes shiny, & you can see through them), and tights are generally opaque (thick & can't see through them).
personally, i've been exploring the world of pantyhose lately... or more specifically, thigh-highs, since they're better for um... "air circulation" in certain places. lol. i was watching the movie "legally blonde" and i noticed the subtle measures they took to make reese witherspoon appear sexy and that wretched new girlfriend (of her ex-bf) to appear UNsexy and conservative. i noticed that they often put reese in pantyhose, sometimes with pretty designs on them... and would put the other girl in tights and unflattering suits/shoes.
so to answer your question, i'm exploring the world of thigh-high, pretty pantyhose these days. and i like black. and for everyday at the office, the color "nude" is usually appropriate & professional. =)

okay, i just realized maybe you're british & "stockings" is their word for socks...?

Honey, if you had to cope with the inconvenience of stockings and the contraptions that hold them up, you would not have to ask. Pantyhose was one of the major inventions of the 20th century. So liberating to not have to wear a girdle! Now girdles are mostly the domain of the mildly kinky, and worn for FUN!!!

I really hate them both but unfortunately I do have to deal with them - and when I do I chose pantyhose - usually either a skintone or an ultrashear black depending on what I'm wearing them with

Pantyhose, suntan or very light nude sheers. I like wearing them when I'm dressing up, but not for work. I have a uniform for work.

Panty hose adn i wear them to work.
My favorite colors are skin toned - and black very ultra sheer... I will also where a navy or gray ultra sheer depending on the outfit....gotta make sure i coordinate!

Neither. During the winter I wear tights to keep my legs warm under my pants suits if it gets really cold here. I work in a warehouse, so dress pants, boots and a blouse work for me. I tend to wear mens socks with my boots.

Pantyhose always...Suntan,Navy,Off black,Tan,Beige,Off white.I wear them for work everyday, as well...I wear pantyhose cause I like them!

My gal whom is a very confident "Bombshell" believes Stockings are for women and pantyhose are for little girls. She love the glamour and sexy alure vintage stockings bring to her long legs.
As a Man I couldn't agree more I wish more women understood that? I guess it depends on who they dress for themselves, men or other women?
