We're looking at buying a low-end computer for home use. The Dell website lists the Dimension B110 with the Intel Celeron D processor at $329 (if we upgrade to 512mb RAM.) But for $329 we can also choose the Dimension E521 which comes with 512mb RAM, and uses the AMD Sempron 3400+ processor.

Is there a noticeable difference between the two processors for standard home use (internet, basic Windows programs, some games)?

Are there significant differences between the two machines that I'm missing?

Basically, they're the same. The Celeron is made by Intel, while the Sempron is made by AMD. The 2 (Celeron and Sempron) are the entry level / economy processors, made for basic computing; internet surfing, homework, etc. The are most certainly not designed for gaming or CAD work.

In this case, you really don't gain or lose anything by choosing one or the other.

If you can, try to see if they offer an AMD Athelon, or low end Pentium chip for a nominal cost. That would buy your computer and extra year or so before it becomes too obsolete, plus there would be a noticeable difference in speed.

Good luck!

I am not sure of the difference between the two, but I bought my first home computer about six months ags; it was th eB110. I am very happy with it, use it for everything and have had no problems with it. Mine cost a little more than yours, about 550 with the following included. I added an internal floppy for school purposes, a 17" flat panel monitor and a 4 yr harware warranty. I also got the 924 printer that prints, scan, faxes, copies, eveything.

you could constantly upload extra ram, no concern whether, while you're making use of abode windows 32 bit, then 4Gb would be all you need to use besides. abode windows sixty 4 bit facilitates as much as 128Gb, yet abode windows 32 bit limits it to 4Gb or maybe at that, you purely get to apply approximately 3.25 gb or so. The gadget makes use of something.
