The day before, I was just reflecting, thinking, (and listening) to my Heavenly Father. (No big deal, anyone can listen, if they learn to be quiet).

I was reminded of a huge Dodgers fan who once lived in San Diego. He is a friend of my parents, and he's dying. He's had a lifelong wrestling bout with the Lord.

"Are you willing to let your Padres lose, so I can get through to this man?" the Lord asked me, simply. Essentially, I had the impression this man would not be convinced about Jesus unless something miraculous happened.

"It's just a baseball game," I told the Lord. "If it means you reach this man through a miracle, then Your will be done."

The game you were referring to -- the following evening -- the Padres were up 4-1. It was on local (San Diego) TV, and I told my son, a huge Padres' fan, "I have a feeling the Padres aren't going to win tonight." (Too bad I didn't just say, "They AREN'T going to win.")

It was a wrestling match between me and the Lord. Game tied, 4-4. Padres up, 6-4. I stopped watching. Turned on the TV, and San Diego is up 9-5 in the last inning. I saw the 1st two LA home runs, and I knew the outcome.

So when the Dodgers did something that hadn't been done in over 40 years -- the Dodgers, with the lowest HR totals in the league, slamming 4 straight in the ninth, and winning on another HR in the 10th, I was already prepared.

One member of the Padres said afterwards, "It was as if other Forces were at work."
