The government actually recognizes that they are monopolies but they have special status since they are sports leagues. If they revocoked that status then the sports organizations would have to split up, since the government realizes this is absurd they have given them special status.

From my understanding, a monopoly would indicate that you are rthe only game in town (so to speak). If you have competition, even you you dominate them, you are not a monopoly. For example, EA Sports purchased the rights to be the only company to make NFL football games. No other company can use registered teams in their games until the contract expires. That would be a monopoly

no longer shocked......I agree that congress is the gang that legally shouldn't exist. The NBA and NFL exist of their own good. i understand that that's extremely not the factor of the question (i think of the factor is illustrated properly with the aid of the substantial factors, and that i in my view have not got something which would be of super help to that factor), yet i might want to handle the NBA vs the NFL. The NBA is a shaggy dog tale. Basketball is now no longer the foremost to creating sales and prosperity. The teamwork and strategic play taught in severe college and faculty is destroyed with the aid of the shortcoming of enforcement of unique rules (vacationing), 0 protection, and the completed bullshit that is going on today. college basketball nevertheless takes approach and a minimum of one million guy (often the coach) which could nevertheless think of.

You can start competing leagues.
The NBA competed with the ABA.
NFL with USFL and XFL.
NHL with WHA.
I believe baseball has an antitrust exemption which allows them to act in a more monopolistic manner.
