How old are you? Do you help with the running of the home? Are you old enough to get a job? All these factors contribute to how I would answer your question. I have a 13 year old daughter...and we've had an allowance system for a few years now since she showed me her responsibility level. She gets $13 a week........but does have a lot of chores and responsibilities for that. Ive trid the allowance system with my two smaller boys and they just arent old enough (8 and 6) to follow them consistently without me nagging. My daughter is responsible for emptying the dishwasher daily (sometimes twice)....making her own lunch daily...setting the table at mealtimes...putting away her own laundry, cleaning her room and keeping it clean. She cleans the childrens bathroom weekly and keeps it clean. She walks the dog daily and does all the dog duties..poop and scoop...feeding her etc. Think thats about it...but it does keep her busy and is teaching her valuable house maintance skills. Ask your parents if you can sit down and discuss this with them. Do they give you money on a consistant basis? Do they buy your clothes etc...? My daughter does local babysitting also and earns money that way...but when she goes out with friends etc...she knows she has to use her own money...thus its also teaching her how to manage her money...these are all good life skills.....explain this to your parents...that your'e willing to help out around the home and buy your own items..but you would like an allowance... most of my daughters friends dont get an allowance..but get money handed to them on occasions............. I'm trying to teach my daughter how to handle her time, chores, and money. Approach your parents that way....and see how it goes. If all else fails and your old enough...get your babysitting licence and start babysitting...or get a job at a local coffee shop...(think you need to be 14 for that..) good luck..hope my advice and example have helped...

Ask your parents if it is due to their budget or if there are chores you could do around the house to get some cash. Sometimes money can be tight for people and allowance is not always easy to give out. Another thing you can do is try to find an after school or weekend job such as babysitting. paper route, raking leaves etc. See the school guidance councilor too and see if the school has any work programs. Be sure to have a talk with your parents and good luck!

Explain the need for the allowance to your parents and they would only too willing to help you, if you really deserve it. No parent wants to see his ward suffer.

wow just goes to show how different life can be - my mother didn't have the money to give me - I went out and got my own money. Made me really independant.... If your parents do have the money it could be a case of simplying proving that you are worthy of getting this money...maybe do a couple of chores or something.

I give my daughter an allowance when she helps out around the house. If she doesn't help, no money.
