Brooklyn Dodgers 1951 - On August 11, the Dodgers had a 13 1/2 games lead on the New York Giants and blew it. The Dodgers 26-22 during this time, but the Giants went 37-7. They ended in a tie and played a 3 game playoff. Giants took game 1 and the Dodgers took game 2. In game 3, the most exciting of the 3, the Giants were down 4-2 in the bottom of the 9th. Bobby Thompson comes to bat with 2 men on and hit the 'Shot Heard Round the World." The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant! I wish I had been alive during that time period. I think that had to be one of the most exciting seasons ever in the NL.

I don't think you can qualify the 2006 boston team as a collapse, they were hampered by injuries to many key players...the 77 sox blew it big time, but much of that falls on the shoulders of Don Zimmer for being a fool and letting his ego get in the way of winning baseball games.

The biggest collapse of all-time was the 1964 Phillies. They had an game lead with only 13 games left... and proceeded to lose 10 in a row.

The Reds had a solid lead in the NL Wild Card this year until around the first of September when they went into early hibernation.

1977 Boston up 14 games to the Yanks in July and losing it on homer to Bucky F. Dent in a one game playoff

The Yanks loosing four strait to them in the playoffs in 2004 ranks up there as well
