I am going on a trip to Jamaica. I live in America and I want to bring my hair straightener. Will I need a Voltage/Plug converter? I have an expensive straightener and I dont want it to get fried! Please help!

The Voltage is 110, and you won't need any converters. Your hair straightener won't work as effeciently because the current is 50 cycles and not 60, like the States. Enjoy your holiday, and get out and experience the culture.

It is 110 but sometimes the cycles are different. I would suggest getting a converter to plug in. You can get one at Best Buy. I plugged my cell phone in there and it would rarely hold a charge longer than 24 hours and it usually last 3-4 days. I have never had anything harmed but if it is really expensive you might want to invest. If you are staying at a fancy resort such as Sandals you will probably not have a problem. If you are staying at a lesser known hotel/villa their electric current may not be really up to date.
And do not listen to those people who say to stay at the resort and don't leave. I have been to Jamaica 11 times in the past 4-5 years and I have not had a problem except the occasional "i love you" type harrassment that is typical in the Caribbean. Experience Jamaica with common sense and you will be fine. It is a beautiful country with beautiful people.

The voltage in Jamaica is 110, the same as in the US. Your bathroom appliances will work just as here. People coming from the UK need to bring a converter. We were there in July of this year (near Ocho Rios) and all of our stuff worked just fine.

Its voltage is 110-120. Your stuff will work without an adapter. STAY IN THE RESORT, or go out only in a large group. The place is crawling with thieves, especially Kingston, but Ocho Rios and Montego Bay have bad areas too.
