apply a little foundation on ur jawline and see if the shade matches ur skin tone. get the one that comes closest to ur skin tone so when u apply it u'll get an even finish. u will also need a concealer for dark circles, a blush or bronzer. eyeliner and eyeshadow for ur make-up collection.

Try out foundations along the jawline. If it looks like you have a mask on, it is either too dark or too light.
Foundation should do nothing more than cover imperfections in your own skin tone. Not add or wash out anything but imperfections (which are not your own skin tone anyway)
Try Bare Minerals... or if that is too involved a process (in that you have to order it) or too pricey for you, use the drug store alternative by Physicians Formula. It is comparable, much cheaper and easier to get.

go to a makeup counter at a department store - 90% of the time they will match your foundation on the spot for no charge - the only draw back is that it is for that specific brand. but you can then take the bottle to wherever and match the color inside, of course you have to be wary of that too because it could dry a different color because of the composition.
if you are still under 20 (which i would guess to be true) clinique is inexpensive (it's engineered more towards younger women)

go to a dept. store like Dillards they have cosmetics people who will work with you to match and gind the right shade of make up for you. My best bet is to give Sephora a try and ask them about Bare Minerals-the kit- and they will work with you on finding the perfect shade. I love this kit since it gives you two shades of make up so you can wear one color alone or add a second color. it also comes with great stuff such as a blush, a mineral veil-which keeps the make up in place and the necessary tools you need as well as how to step by step DVD. plus it is $60, the make up from the kit lasts you around 6 months and all of the make up is pure minerals-i swera by this make up since i have tried Clinique, Revlon, Cover Girl, and even Chanel which made me break out but this one is actually good for my skin: no break outs, you can fall asleep in it and not have to worry and it is 100% pure minerals.

if foudation is what you're looking for, pick the shades you think would be appropriate, then stripe them on your cheek- down to the jaw line. whichever color blends in best,(is hardest to see) is your color. If you have good skin to start with, you might try tinted moisturizer. It evens out your tone slightly and is very easy to match, covergirl and neutrogena make good affordable ones. If money isn't a concern try stila's.

always put a little dab on your jawline and blend very lightly...go somewhere where you can see yourself in a mirror in broad daylight..............fluorescent lighting is the WORST for judging colors; if the dab you applied disappears, that the right color!!! you NEVER apply makeup base to your neck; just to right below the jawline and blend lightly and you should never look like you have a lighter/darker face than your neck!!!!!!! NEVER use your hand, for testing shades; etc..that's not the same as your facial skinone!!!
