I work in a library and the job can be fairly physical, with carrying heavy books and crates, on my feet all day and lots of moving about. I am 5 weeks pregnant and having some twinges in my right side wich only go when I lie down. Im off to see my doctor tomorrow and am thinking of asking her to sign me off work for a couple of weeks untill the twinges calm down. Do u think this is justified? I have had a previous miscarriage so am a little paranoid this time around, ansd want to be careful.
Opinions please

Being cautious will totally pay off with a healthy baby! Don't worry about any thing else - you know you're doing the right thing!

I think that maybe you should just work part-time or ask your boss if you can get some help with heavy books. Taking time off this early in pregnacy may cause you not to go back to work at all. But ask your doctor and see what he says. the twinges may just be your body changing. Like little muscule spasms or something. Ask your doctor but stay calm and remember the baby. Don't start freaking out just yet. Good Luck with your pregnancy

If you have had a previous miscarriage i would stay in the bed most of the day...drink and eat REALLY healthy, take prenatal vitamins, and walk about 10 minutes a day. Not in the heat...just a slow healthy walk. I defiantly wouldn't work until 2nd Trimester and even then I would ask to be put on "light duty". Good Luck!

Every one is different. Make sure to talk to your doctor. See if he can at least write you a note for you not to lift heavy things. I think every one who has had a miscarriage would be paranoid in your situation. GOOD LUCK, I hope you have a safe and happy pregnancy!

I would ask my doctor what they think the cause could be and take it easy at work. Try not lifting as many books at a time and putting unnecessary stress on your body. The walking around part is actually good for you but don't overdo it.

You need to cut out the library. you shouldnt lift anything heavier than a jug of milk and since you already had a miscarriage I would listen to your body and take it way easy!

I would ask my doctor for his opinion. I think you should probably not be doing any heavy lifting. If you have to restack books, how about one at a time. Or ask your boss to give you another assignment.

yes you should get the doctor to give you a few weeks off .and try to use flat shoes that you are comfortable in .It would probably be a good idea to get some Dr.Scholes cushions with massage action for your shoes

If you have had a previous miscarriage it might be the right thing to do.
