Frozen spinach is safe because the e-coli will not survive the cold temps. The problem is only with fresh spinach.

Trust your instincts, if you don't feel that it is safe why on earth would you take that risk? Throw it away....better to be safe than sorry. New's said frozen was ok, check the date, but still go with your gut feeling on this. Personally I would'nt eat any frozen or fresh, raw, or cooked, just to be safe, I could not live with the fact that I made my family or myself sick just because I wanted spinach....choose another veggie!
