There were bears in ancient Israel according to 2 Kings 2:24. (Even if one does not believe the story in the Bible. it is obvious that the author of Second Kings is familiar with bears, and the book was written in the time of ancient Israel).

Bears in Israel, yes. King David killed at least one . Lions, too.
And a stupid big guy who didn't recognize a threat when he saw one.

Don't think so. Too dry and barren with no rain, rivers and tree cover. Not a likely habitat for bears.
