Well I don't know. I drive a BMW convertible. I hate big vehicles and I try to stay away from the "soccer mom" way of thinking. I have spoken to a lot of different women about it and they all pretty much say "I drive it because I feel safe - if I get in an accident I am going to crush the other car instead of them crushing me".
That is just a WONDERFUL way of thinking, isn't it?

Why does everyone think that 4x4s are dangerous, surley its the person behind the wheel. I drive a 4x4 and dont feel that i should have to explain to people why i do so. I've worked all my life and chose to buy a 4x4 as my car, and i dont think that women are compensating for anything, ifact its usually the man who buys the car and the wife just drives it, so the question should be why do Men buy 4x4s.

No, I don't think it's compensating for something.
As a woman who drives a huge 4x4, I can say that it's the perceived "safety" that gets me. It feels safer to drive a big beefy truck than a flimsy minivan. I firmly believe I could drive my truck (ford f250, 4 door, turbo diesel with a REAL grill guard) through a minivan if t-boned it at a fast enough speed. That's not to say that I am bragging about that, but that the perceived sense of safety makes me say "Well... if *I* could do that? Why would want to subject my children to the possible risk of someone doing that to us by me choosing to drive a minivan"

not a mom...but I do drive a mid-size pickup that's a 4x4.
One, I like being a little higher up, you can see traffic better.
Two, I got tired of hauling stuff in a 300M.
Three, Gotta love a V8.
Empowerment issues...lol, that's funny. Seriously though, I would tend to agree with the Escalades, Ex-HUGE whatever...yeah, I think some of these women have issues. Same vein...turn signals are not a permission slip, merely an indication of what you'd LIKE to do.

I don't feel that this is true. I have a 1996 GMC Yukon and I got it because I like the style and the performance of the vehicle. The 4x4 is good for the winter and you can drive through any snow.

Its probably because they have a lot of kids to pick up from school, atleast they have a reason unlike some of these guys who drive around in huge trucks just to get a bottle of milk from the corner shop

I agree. The shortest women I know drive the largest vehicles. And another reason men drive sports cars is because they are going through male menopause. They are reliving their childhood by driving the vehicle they had then or couldn't afford then.

Many women drive these kind of cars because they think they are safer. Remember, they drive their children around: soccer, ballet, baseball, etc.
Personally I don't like them because I find them to be too big and chunky for my taste. I prefer sedans.

I'd say they were just plain stupid.
4x4's use too much petrol, pollute too much, are too cumbersome to drive and park, and block the roads for other drivers.
Stupid and/or selfish.
