Dont forget they do hate us Americans we voted for the government so if our government is a murderer, theif, racist, then so are we!

i have been reading some of these american forums about why the US is so hated around the world. Not being an american i feel i have a unique perspective to answer this question and maybe help you understnd why there is so much hate towards your country. i would like to point out that i do not hate america but do understand why u are hated. i think u have a amzing country even if some aspects of your culture worry me.
Being from England i am better placed to tell you why british and european people feel a dislike for the US but i will try to expalin global hatred as best i can. i personally have no negative feelings towards the american PEOPLE i love much of ur cultrue and enjoy simlarties between US and UK. however there is much and growing resentment to how america acts abroad mayjor disagreement on a intlectual level. i will try to summarise European intellectual opionns on US.
1st. there is the basic jelousy that is always going to exist between the world superpower and thoose below it and althought the gap is relatively small between US and EU this immature reason fules much haterd of US but not as much as some of you seem to think.
2nd. The US refusal to sign up to kyoto agreement annoys many in europe as without ur cooperation there is not much the rest of the world can do. This is often held up as a example of why the US is hated acorss the world
3rd. US foregin policy and this is a big one btw. The US is percived by many to have a agreesive and self-benefiting attitude to the world. there are countless regiemes across the world propped up by US funds that are far from "free and democratic" despite bushs claims that you are and is what motivates you abroad and confilcts like iraq and vietnam demonstrate hypocracy where the US gets involed only where its intrests are best served.
4th now this one is technically part of US forgein policy but is such a major one i thought id give it its own space. the US unqestioned support of israel is seen as a mistake at best and at worst by many especially in middle east as a example of how US acts in its own intrest. The refusal of US(and UK) to intervene in lebanon conflict illustrates how self benefiting US foregin policy is and how it turns a blind eye to atrocities when it suits them.
5th. This one may come as a suprise to many of you but increasingly europeans are scared of americans. we see the re-election of george bush as the US peoples endorcement of ur forgein policy. movements like the Evangelicists scare europenas with there hardline views and growing influence on the US politcsal system. it is hard for many from the EU to comprahend there way of life and beleifs as they are so far from our own way. The Gun culture you have also worrys us the shoot first mentallity seems to trasnfer into actions abroad and has done much to tarnsih the american name.
6th there is a strong feeling that americans are arrgonat and ignorant of the rest of the world and from reading some of ur posts this seems to be true. i would like to point out most people are happy to live where they are and do not desire to move to the US. Also not nessarliy on this forum but on ones like it you have a mentality that is if u dont like america then leave but much of the haterd for your country comes from people to have not been it is the consequences of ur actions aborad that we deal with, not ur culture that makes much of the worl hate you and blame you for tis ills. anyone who has visted knows it is a amazing place and contributes to science, free thinking and progress. i heard a statisic recently that shows this point. it was that under 10% of amercians have a passport and most who leave the coutnry do so on miltary service. in Europe nearly everyone has a passport and cultural exchange is a massive deal. i recomend any americans to travel to the Uk and the rest of europe to see for urself why there is such stong resentment in europe but more so acorss the rest of the world.
i feel i have gone on to long but the same time have only just got started please note these do not nessarily reflect my views but are the veiws of many. i personally think u have a great country and hope to vist at somepoint i am not trying to offend or attack your culture and country but hgihtlight world perception. there are many more reasons why the US is hated but in genral it boils down to how u act abroad.

Because the United States government is responsible for most bad things in this world at the moment?

Half of it is what we do, and half is what they think.
We (4% of the world's population) go to any country smaller than us, and tell them how to live, and threaten them if they don't agree. Also, they watch TV and think that America is ridiculously rich, and could eliminate starvation around the globe and so on.
So, the perception (depending on who the hater is) is either that we have the power to change the world for good, and don't use it, or that we use our power to bully the rest of the world. Both arguments have some merit, but are exagerations of what we do and are capable of.

It's easier than dealing with it themselves. It seems the whole world expects us to step in and take care of them. I don't mind helping other countries if they appreciate the help but most just seem to blame us if it doesn't turn out the way they want it to.I'm so sick of people bashing the US. We are a great country and it's time for people to give us the respect we deserve.

Because the liberal media and its liberal friends have created an environment that makes it cool to do so. This way nobody will be responsible for their actions, we can just blame it on the old USA.

They are jealous of our power and influence. You can't blame Canada or the French very often without sounding jingoistic but it's ok to bash the US (just kidding Canada, you do have really cute accents eh)

It follows the golden rule----he who had the gold makes the rules. And everyone else blames him and tries to take the gold away.

Humm, while public opinion is against the US, there's no "blaming", at least, not in my country. I mean, what would we blame you for?
