I guess it depends in what context you're asking. In aviation in general, jet engines were the biggest development as piston engined aircraft were still in normal use both militarily and in civilian aviation. The first jets came out right at the end of WWII and were developed rapidly during the 50's and 60's with the first commercial jets beginning operation in the mid to late 50's. The de Havilland Comet was one of the first with Caravelles, Boeing 707's, DC-8's and Convair Coronados following. In military terms there were lots of different jet fighters followed by jet bombers as the technology became more proven and more powerful.

This list would be too long to list individual aircraft, so I'll list the categories instead with examples.
Transport helicopters - Bell Huey (single rotor), CH-47 Chinook (twin rotor)
Fighter helicopters - Apache
Transport turbo prop - C-130 Hercules
Transport jet - C-5 Galaxy
Fighter jets - F-86 Sabre, F-14 Tomcat, Harrier, Falcon, F-117 Stealth
Bomber jets - B-52, B-2 Stealth

Some WW2 aircraft were used after WW2 as well. These include the P-51 Mustang (fighter), DC-3/C-47 (twin engine transport), F4U Corsair (aka bent wing bird).

There are so many types of aircraft and most are specialized. What particular type are you interested in? The majority of military aircraft are not combat equipment but logistical.

specific I believe all of you. the two maximum serious issues after the conflict on the civilian part have been the popular use of pressurization to fly above the climate and burn much less gas, and the jet engine to allow better, quicker planes.
