Thought police I think is a better word for it. Somehow by renaming a group/place/activity it is thought that the new name will some how sanitize the conotations. This is of course the best demonstration of mass loss of touch with reality ever demonstrated. Retarded vrs mentally challenged. Same thing. Literally retarded is an old PC term that replaced dumb or worse. You cannot cleanse a word of it's meaning. Whether they are "retarded" "Mentally challenged" "dumb" or whatever you want to call it. The fact is something tragic happened to these people. They are incapable of unassisted living in some cases. They are objects of scorn to some. Especially those who are only margionally more intelligent. Whatever term we apply to it will be co-opted to describe people and actions who are not within the literal deffinition but do display to that user actions/traits which mimic a higher level equivalent of the same trait.

So whether you call the gay or fag. Doesn't change the meaning of the word. Doesn't change the fact that a large number of people are disgusted by the activity descibed. Gay has now come to take on the same negitive conotations as fag has. Change the name again and when somebody dislikes something they'll use the new name to dispariage that thing.

Far as I am concerned PC is a flight response. A means to attempt to avoid reality. An attempt for a fresh start which is impossible for an activity/group/place in most cases. It's not periphials it's the actual person/thing/place that is the core of the negitive conotations in most cases. If that negitive conotation is incorrect then all the effort spent trying to flee the conotations would be better served fighting any misperceptions. If there is no misperception you have to accept that whatever it is, it is not populer and deal with it. If you are a Neocon, Liberal, Mic, Limey, Squaw, Commie, or whatever the unacceptable terms are. If that is who you really are be proud of it. I have no idea what current PC terms are and don't really care. I'm NOT going to call a Black African American. I find the term African American offensive because it puts something before American first of all. Second few of them are actually African. Last it's too long. Way too long. I'm not going to spend a week twisting my tounge around the zillion very lenghty and often inaccurate PC terms for something.

Nor am I going to accept changing all the books in history to adopt some new gender naming fad. If the ladies are that insecure then they are in fact self defeating thier own movement. Most women I know are not that petty. So I feel it is disrespectull, a waste of money, time and resources as well as being counter productive to attempt to change every reference to mankind to some bizzare PC equiv.

What does PC cost us? Quite a bit. New terms confuse people. Much time and effort is wasted trying to decipher what somebody is talking about. Even the proponents of PC talk have to stretch thier vocab on a frequent basis and until they've heard a term in usefull context they have no clue what it means either. Why replace words because they have a negitive conotation with words that will just inherit the same connotation? That is a ludicrous waste of money and people's time. If a group of people are insecure about who and what they are changing the name changes nothing. They are still JUST as insecure.

So besides wasting time and money. Besides confusing people both present and future as so many PC terms are never adopted in the mainstream. Besides being an irrational expression of intent. PC terms are often misleading. Often this deception is intentional. So PC is often a pack of lies with a grand name. I think the world would be a better place without the PC movement. Which thankfully seems to be dieing out as people realize the many facts about it I have expressed. A hard core group of fanatics still practice it whole heartedly but mainstream adoption is dramatically declining for PC terms. People weary of having to relearn how to speak thier native tounge over and over again every few years. Why not just make up a completely new language and try to inflict it on people. Except for grammar and spelling rules that is pretty much the end result of the PC movement.

I for 1 will celibrate when the last PC term is created and ignored.

****, ******, chink, wop, fag, etc. it's these words that did it, and they really, truly are wrong. But then, like with everything, it gets blown out of proportion. I have an Indian friend and he's not even sure what he's supposed to call himself anymore, said the other day, "I think I'll just call my self a 'wagon-burner' and be done with it." and he grins. PC or not PC it doesn't really matter, cuz just opening your mouth is wrong to somebody. F*ck it. Say nothing or say everything, however the mood takes you. Honest people--honest with themselves, that is--recognize the sentiment and the meaning behind what you say (good or bad).

It sure seems that way. As in your last post, if now even movies that depict the historical events of a wartime era are deemed "racist", then PC has gripped our minds beyond reality!

Yeah it's pretty sad. If there one thing I'd change, it would be to go back to early 1980's when life was free of cel phones, computer laptops and caller ID.

The sound of a spoken word is better than the click of a key or mouse.
