Your government is responsible for all your needs. This does not however mean that you won't get taxed the hell out of for these services.

Socialism is the common ownership of productive assets, as opposed to individual ownership, which is capitalism. The most vocal advocate of socialism was Karl Marx, whose thesis was that workers are not deriving the full value of their labor in wages, and are thus being cheated; this would be avoided if the employer were the community at large, rather than an individual. This thesis was based on the "labor theory of value" -- that the worth of a product is the summation of the effort involved in creating it. This thesis is wrong, as we shall now see.
Suppose, that on your way home, you realize that you are out of bread. There is a store not far out of your way, so you go there, select a loaf, give the storekeeper money, and go on home. It is obvious that value has bee created: you wanted the bread more than you wanted the money, so you are better off. The storekeeper wanted the money more than the bread, so he is better off. It's a win-win situation, and is an exemplar of the general principle that TRADE CREATES VALUE. But this obviously applies to trade in employment as well: the worker gets more value for his work than he places on it -- if he did not, he would quit. And, yes, the employer gets more value from the work than he pays in wages -- if he did not, he would not continue to employ the worker. Again, it's a win-win situation. The most astonishing thing about Marx's mistake was that he was aware of the creative value of trade -- in fact, he cited a paper on it in a footnote in "Capital"! And he managed to botch it anyway. Marx's mistake is, by far, the most expensive error that anyone has ever made in all human history -- the cost has run to tens of millions of lives, and trillions of dollars, and is continuing to increase every day.

socialism is wher the people, control the means of production, and government.
evryone pays into a big pot, like the treasury, then its divided up fairly based on needs, between everyone. theres no fat cats, and theres no poverty. theres also no personal wealth, which is why rich fat middle class extortionists despise the system.
the state provides everything, from the cradle to the grave, and it was teh underpinning of the labour party...and for fifty years it worked quite well, then maggie thatcher let teh rich get richer on the backs of teh poor people, who suffered great deprivation under a nasty tax system, whic faviured the rich, and disadvantaged the poor. thats conservatives for you.
socialism gave the country a good healthy educated workforce, whith adequate housing and subsidised travel.socialists have central elected committees.
not to be confused with communism which is a totally different ideology. firstly its a state system of oppression, run by the central government, who are not elected by the people they represent.

The right wing newspapers in the UK call it a nanny state.
In fact it is the government being socially responsible for it's citizens, ensuring that they have access to good quality education and health services, that the police and courts will protect the good and take the bad off the streets.
It is about the beleif that people are important and not just about money being king!

having lived in the x-Soviet Union for the 15 years of my life, I can probably tell you.
Imagine that everything around you, all businesses, factories, manufactures are owned by the Government. You don't get much pay, but just enough to live on, and if you are lucky, a little bit extra.
But in return your Government provides you with free medical care, free education, one month vacation. If you are a woman, and pregnant, you get 2 years paid vacation right after you give birth.
Overall it sounds better than it really is, it just doesn't work for a very long time.

Impossible to define in a sound bite. Take the time to read up on it. There are many different types of socialism. Start here - it is probably the least biased place to learn initially;

It is a theory of" to each according to his need not deed."In this system Govt. is the all powerful boss and the citizen has to do what he is told to do.Even art and literature are subordinated to state.There is no right to property and fundamental rights are minimum.
I hope I have made it simple.
