How can i access files that i have on my windows machine from my mac. If i were to access the files from another windows machine, i could go to neighborhood network, click on computers near me, find the computer name, and voila..... how do you do this on a MAC?

You guys... I must have phrased the question wrong. The files are on a PC and i want to get them FROM my mac...

both of the 2 first answers work from a PC side getting files off a MAC...

Ok, so thats still not working.

I have files on a PC that i need to be able to access via my mac. I went to "browse network" on the mac and the pc does not appear there. I tried typing in the ip address and it still couldnt connect. what gives?

On the Mac, in the Finder, go to the Network. Depending on the way you have your Finder set up, this can be achieved in many ways. You could access it from the Sidebar, go to the root, in the Go menu....bunch of ways. Then you find your windows computer on the network and connect. Depending on how you have it set up, it will ask you for a name and password, which will be the name and password set up on the windows.

Or if your using a modem router, plug pc on usb and mac on ethernet. Give it a moment to connect and you should see a mounted volume on Mac desktop which is the shared folder on the Start ransfer and you can surf whilst transferring data.

first install network card, network card driver and configure the network on both windows & mac

Try this
1) Click START
2) Click RUN
3) In the textbox, type \\machine's name

For example: \\MyMacComputer
