Yep, if she's made a contribution such as to the mortgage or by raising any kids you have so that you can work to pay the mortgage. If you don't have kids together and she's not contributed then I'd guess you could change the locks but check with a solicitor first. Whether she lives with the Queen of Sheba or an alcoholic is irrelevant

I suspect the answer would vary from country to country, and from state to state. You'll need a lawyer to draw up some paperwork if you want a legal separation. Once her residence is established as being in another location, I think she will lose rights to your home.

UNitl you file for divorce and have a restraining order put on her, it is her house too (if her name is on the lease or deed or mortgage). I changed the locks, my (now ex) hubby broke window to get in (while we were still married and not filed yet) Cops couldn't press charges and insurance wouldn't pay since one of the owners intentionally broke the glass.

are you the alcoholic?
and if not - then unless you guys came to an agreement - yes she can still come in the house- is her name on the contract?- if you are primary you should have it removed-when she leaves again get a restraining order

Are there kids involved? I would say that if kids were involved and she left for their safety then no, unless the lush is gone. But if she does go back and the lush is still there then I would have never came back in the first place.

What if she went on a business trip for a week? Sounds like a silly question to me.

Sure she has the right to come back, but the question would be if her husband is a drunk, why would she want to return?
