Why is it that in Batman Begins, Bruce Wayne's parents are killed by a street thug (who is not the joker) and in the original batman they are killed by the joker (before he is the joker). It is definately not the guy as he doesn't even say that "devil in the pale moonlight" speech. What's going on?

The Joker didn't kill The Wayne's. That was Tim Burton's idea. In the original comics from the 40s, it was reveled that Joe Chill killed them, in the 60s, they changed it so that Batman never knew who killed them. Batman Begins is kinda a mixture of the many histories of Batman.
Just a side note, the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher films are awful. The best Batman film is the 1993 animated film, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.

Bruce says that he imagines every villain he meets to be the killer of his parents - that's why he does what he does after all, so that's why he see's the joker killing them in Batman. Wayne's parent were killed by Joe Chill.
I thought the worst bit was the end when he gave him a Joker card and said there was a new guy in town. But Jack hadn't even been turned into the Joker yet, that was about quater way into the original. I prefer Tim Burton's two versions of Batman, I liked Batman Begins but it took itself a bit too seriously.
But like a few people have said there were a lot of inconsistancies in the movie - it was to give it a fresh start, but then they shouldn't have referenced the Joker at the end. I dunno, you get mistakes in every movie anyway. The editor obviously wasn't watching closly enough.

Because in the comic books Wayne's parent were killed by Joe Chill, not the joker. the joker came along later.

Tim Burton probably had the joker kill his parent in the first movie, because the joker played such a large part in his story.

I think when they made 'Batman Begins' they were starting over from scratch. When I saw the movie I thought that also, but realized they are probably going to be doing all the movies again to make themselves more money. I thought the first one with the joker as the murderer was better!

Batman Begins is *based* on the comic. same way the first Batman movie is *based* on the comic. neither films are acurate to the comic for many reasons. one is that they are continually retconning the characters, another is that the "story" the filmmaker wants to tell is at times completely different to what the source material is based on, hence the "based on" tag on the movies.

think of those "based on true events" movies. what happens in the film, isn't always what really happened (which is why some poeple protest those films)

It's supposed to be how Bruce Wayne transfers his anger/hate towards the people who murdered his parents onto which ever villain is terrorizing Gotham at the time... he kind of gives a speech about it in the first one w/ Chris O'Donnell.

that is very interesting point of views to this question in all doubt though Batman Begins/ Superman Returns are the best remakes of their previous films

Remember, it is "batman begins". It is independent of the other franchise, which started to suck badly. Also, in the original batman movie Harvey Dent was played by Billy Dee Williams and was black. Harvey Dent is the man who becomes "two-face" who was played by tommy lee jones in batman forever. At least Tommy rhymes with Billy-kinda. And Lee rhymes with Dee. And williams and jones are two common last names, so, i guess it was the same.

I know that's about the only thing I didn't like about the movie besides that. I think they are going in a good direction with it.

different director i guess. maybe they didn't want to go with that famous quote. sort of like the hulk. the producer didn't exactly stick to the televison version or the cartoon version.
