That's because they know if god does exist they are in a heap of trouble.

Some aspects of religion can be tested scientifically.
For example, if prayer helps cure disease in an effective way, this could easily be demonstrated by methods similar to the way drugs are tested. A positive result on such a test would make me reassess my beliefs, but it hasn't happened yet.
Atheism as a hypothesis is falsifiable: if an angel with a flaming sword appeared before me and informed me that I was all wrong about God, I would take that as important evidence against the atheist hypothesis.
A proof of God would be very interesting in a scientific sense. But experience indicates that searching for such proof is likely to be non-productive, and so I spend my time in other ways.
It's not a question of "wanting to believe". It's a question of epistemology: why believe in the absence of evidence? Religion, all religion, is a failure of epistemology. Believing because your parents taught you certain myths as a child is not rational, because those myths are not in accord with experiential reality. Furthermore, other parents in other societies teach their children different, partially conflicting myths, and the effect of those is easy to see. Believing because you want to believe or are comforted by belief is wishful thinking. Those beliefs prevent a clear understanding of reality, and our actual situation on this Earth, and are therefore dangerous.

As a former "doubter" of Christianity, not an atheist, I can say I think we are all searching for answers.
I have to say, I do believe Atheists are absolutely trying to look for proof of God. They also, mostly I would say, think that giving of our faith to our Lord God is somehow a test of intelligence.
Just take "The Atheist Test" (for Atheist who think it is a question of intelligence).
What a lonely and sad existence to have NO faith.
My proposal to the only one or two Atheists I have met is always, if you think there is nothing to it, to Christianity, to a PERSONAL relationship with God, to the power of prayer....JUST TRY IT, for 30 days, if not completely satisfied, you can have your misery right back.
I promise they will get confirmation on the truth about God when they too die, there is 100% odds of that happening.
My life has completely transfomed since becoming a "true" Christian.
Thanks for the question.

Atheists never look for proof of god. They just ask that those who believe in god or would have them believe in god offer up the requisite proof. As noone ever ever has offered even the slightest credible proof they accept their position as justified.
Its a case of a null hypothesis.

Being an atheist or otherwise is about "belief".
So atheists are group of people who are ready to "accept" that god exists if proven. I think a lot of people who understand science falls into this category or as agnostics.

This question should be in R&S... i have no idea why you would post it here, anyway...
When i ask for proof it's more of an exercise for you all who do believe god exists to attempt to explain to someone who doesn't believe how you know his existence is true.
It's an attempt for us to find out how your thought processes work to try to understand why you would believe such a thing. And sometimes it's an attempt for us to try to help you see that you really have no good reason to believe such things.

We are trying to get you to prove there is a god. We figure that when you can't, you might become rational thinkers and that would mean one less idiot religionist who believes and expects some made -up god is going to destroy Earth. We don't trust you, as you might be whacked enough to try to help this god creature achieve that end.

I have no idea by what you mean about atheists looking for evidence of God.
Could you provide an example?

I don't look for proof of god, I argue with xians about his existence.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Because xians are trying everyday to have their agenda pushed down my throat. To ban abortion, morning-after pills, HPV vaccinations, gay rights, etc... So they have lost their immunity from criticism and ridicule (if they ever had one which the crusades and inquisition and even hanging of jesus n the cross would preclude).
And it p**** me off when they tell some woman in the pregnancy section who asks if abortion is an option that god gave her that baby. It ENRAGES me to read that shite. What about the women who can't get pregnant? What about those who need expensive and extensive medical intervention to get pregnant? That is highly insulting, condescending, and idiotic. SO I vent my spleen at them, yes.

We never ask for proof to convince us. The proof is for you to get convinced that there is no GOD
You never understood the evolution which is proved again and again. So grow up and evolve.

Why do religious people worry so much about what atheists do. Here's a deal for you, we'll stop looking when you stop trying to convert us all to you delusional thinking.
