I am 19 weeks pregnant...about five months and the baby's heart rate is still 171 which seems a little high, is that still normal. The doctor didnt voice any concerns, just wondering.

I was actually just at my appt yesterday (17 weeks) and asked my doctor the same question about heart rates! At my last appt, the heart rate had been 172 and was 162 yesterday. What my doctor said is that up until birth, as long as the heart rate is anywhere between 110-180, it is normal and there's nothing to worry about. He also said that defining normal is difficult for everyone because if you are someone who exercises, your heart rate may be higher when you are active or if you are nervous/anxious when the heart rate is measured, it can be higher also. As you go along in your pregnancy, he said the heart rate will slow down and it will definitely slow down once the baby is born. As long as your doctor isn't worried, there's no reason for you to be worried!

If I'm not mistaken a babies heart rate is between 120-170 until the third trimester then it slows down slightly, I would not be too concerned about 171 at 19 weeks, besides I thought that it is much worse if the heart rate is really low-good luck with the rest of your pregnancy

The normal heart rate for a baby in womb is about 117- 180. My daughter, most of the pregnancy was 140. Then when I was getting closer to having her, her heatr jumped to almost 200. And then she was born. She is 4 months now, well actually almost 5.
Don't worry. Tehre is nothing wrong with the baby. Just make sure that you don't think anything bad and trying not to worry about the baby. The less you worry the healthier the baby will be.
Good Luck

its fine, my daughters heart rate was always high. my doctor and the nurse in the hospital told me that because my heart rate is a bit higher then normal that the baby's will be too. but 171 is fine and if ur dr was concerned she would have sid something. No worries :) just enjoy the pregnancy cuz it flys by.

I have had 4 children 2 girls and 2 boys. My oldest daughter always stayed around 186. My second child (boy) was around 170 until the last month then it dropped to around 120. My third child (boy) stayed around 140 until the last month when it dropped to around 118. My last daughter she stayed around 156 the whole pregnancy.
Really you shouldn't worry about the heart rate unless your dr says he is concerned. They usually will let you know.
Oh and one more thing there is a rumour that if the heart rate is under 140 its a boy and over 140 its a girl. Don't believe it because both my boys had high heart rates until the last month.

A high resting heart rate is normal in babies. When I found out about my infant son's rate, I flipped too. But after consulting with several doctors and online medical guides, i found out it is normal. If it makes you feel better, get a second opinion.

Back 10 years ago when I was pregnant, they didn't tell you the actual number!! He just said "Wow, that baby has a good strong heartbeat!!" And believe me, I was full of questions!! The # is NOTHING to be concerned about, its perfectly normal!! The best thing you can do for your baby is to try to RELAX.Cliche, I know, but so true.

He would have told you if he had any concerns. I do think it is normal for the baby's heart rate to be fast this early in your pregnancy..

NORMAL! and you may be having a girl! My daughter had a heart rate in that range but both boys were in the 150s.

Good Luck!
