when she dresses in a provocative way? Do you really think she deserves to be raped or harassed because of the way she dresses? Isn't that stance basically saying that the men who perpatrate those crimes are actually very weak people, who have no self control or sense of right and wrong? And in that case why are you defending them, instead of being outraged that a woman was violated? Does she not have the right to dress the way she wants and to be who she is without the fear of physical harm? Isn't that a right that all humans should have? Or is that reserved for the ones who fit your mold of right and wrong, decent and indecent?

The whole she was asking for it because she was wearing whatever is a bullsh*t copout. It all boils down to the man's total lack of self control and sense of right and wrong. I live in TX.....it's hot here......If I go jogging outside (because gym fees are too expensive) and I want to wear shorts and a sports bra or tank top I should be able to without being labeled a slut or that I'm "asking for it". NO! I'm jogging..... and you're mind is in the gutter. No woman deserves to be violated for any reason least of all because of what she is wearing. GROW UP! That's like saying all people who wear sports jerseys are jocks or all people who have tattoos are harley riding gang members, I mean come on people. All those who say that whole "dress like a slut get treated like one" are a bunch of superficial idiots who only look at the outside of a person. I live in America where I have the FREEDOM to wear whatever the hell I want. That doesn't make me any more or less of a person. It's actions that define a person not clothes and first impressions are not always right. You don't see a man jogging down the street in nothing but shorts and think "oh, he's just asking for it." He's JOGGING same as any woman. It's a bullsh*t double standard.

It's a valid criticism, but it speaks more to historical feminism than current organisations and practices. Influential feminists of colour such as the internationally renowned educator bell hooks and the Egyptian pilitocal leader Nawaal El Saadawi have addressed these issues powerfully and with great effect in an ongoing way, and continue to do so, and their voices are heard and respected by most thinking people. Like any political movement or philosophical position, feminism has changed over time, and there is not reason why a process of growth and change should stop. I doubt women such as Emmeline Pankhurst would recognisemodern feminism, but there are also very few of today's feminists who would be much interested in winding the clock back to those earlier times. It's good to honour our foremothers, as we do our real life mothers, but we are not them, and don't need to be. With modern knowledge, technology and awareness, we can share our interests, concerns and goals with people from all sorts of backgrounds, cultures and heritages. That's something the first feminists would never have envisaged as possible, and so their aspirations were naturally more limited. Times have changed, and we can do the same. Cheers :-)

I think that no women no matter what she is wearing is "asking for it". to harm another person in any way is just plan wrong but i do have to say that a women who dresses like a "loose" women does get treatd diffrently and she should expect that. not getting raped or harressed but if you are showing off your goods you need to expect someone to look and ask for them. it is wrong to rape a women no matter how she is dressed but if she dressed more conserviorly chances are the rape would not happen

A woman has the right to dress in what ever makes her feel good. Sadly, it's society that says she should be treated like a slut if she chooses to dress like one. Define a slut? Most men who rape women do not care if she is dressed like a Sunday school teacher or she has a skirt that should be a belt. Shame on any women who think that other women deserve to be raped because of how they look.

There is a difference between ASKING FOR IT and being VULNERABLE. ASKING FOR IT is dressing slutty, bending over in front of the same guy all the time. Or telling the guy sexual things then when he expects something from her she says he harassed her. Being VULNERABLE is jogging at night or by yourself.

I think some women do stupid things like jogging at night, or jogging with barely any clothes on.....then shes just being stupid, BUT men have the choice to control themselves too. So, it still comes down to the mans choice, whether shes ASKING for it or not.

OK Guys I am so confused! That damn postman of mine forgot to deliver the memo on what is slutty and what isn't slutty! You see I am 56 and my daughter is 36 and my grand-daughter is 16. We all wear the same size of clothing But our taste and the styles are very different for each of us. What is appropriate for my grand-daughter would look silly on me, whereas my daughter can wear some of my clothing and some of her daughters. So please send me the list cause I would love to share it with ALL the women out there so we know for sure we are dressed to your standards!
