Your life if it could somehow benefit the whole of mankind, yet no one would know of your sacrifice, and you could not say goodbye?

It is interesting to see what people have to say about it would depend on details and such. Also i find it interesting how people feel the motivation for doing something is somehow pivitol. in fact im gonna pot another question about this. But my poin is that if someone does something is it simply not the deed that is done that is judged not why they did it. If someone saves a life becuase they didn't want to feel guilty over not saving it, is it any less a good deed than someone who saves someone becuase they wanted to make a difference in the world?

Lots of people have done this. I hope I would make the correct choice if I ever had to decide. I won't know until I face it though.

Benefit how? A little? A lot? In what ways? My answer would be relative to the extent of benefit.

As for no one knowing of my sacrifice, that would not matter at all. I would not need other people to acknowledge my act. I do not need validation from others.

As for not saying goodbye, if the act were to be a great enough benefit to mankind, then I would not need to say goodbye. I have a clean conscience, and the people I love know that I love them.

If anything, my death will be a great loss too all of humanity. :p

It depends a lot on how am I supposed do give it, and how would the mankind benefit....I would not kill myself by taking pills, shouting myself, hanging or other things like that....but I would go inside a burning building to deactivate a bomb, even if I knew I couldn't come back out in time (that, of course, if I knew how to deactivate it.......it was the only example I could think of at the moment).....I also would not give my life so that my body could be studied, or for the progress of the science

Why does someone have to know of it? If it is being done for attention or to get some type of accolade or "hero" response from doing it, then it is being done for the wrong reason.

One should do things out of the kindness and gratefulness of their hearts, NEVER expecting anything in return. That is the behavior of someone who displays unconditional love.

I sacrifice a part of my life everyday for my family. Doing things that they dont appreciate, but if it is not done, then life around the house falls apart. So no, I would not give up. I would do it because it needs to be one, probably.

Probably but as mentioned before I would like to know the specifics. For what one would say would benefit the whole of mankind I might not agree.

Oof tough question.. In my right mind I would, but sacrificing my life for such great a cause should recieve recognition.. I would sacrifice my life, for a moment I would hesitate about my anonymous contribution, but i would die for mankind nonetheless

NO
i find that evil, and... and discusting.

Its called altruism.

I believe that persons highest moral goal should be thier own happieness.

Its called objectiveism.

If you want to contribute to society, then do something productive, be a productive member of society. Do what you do, and do it the best that you possibly can. Be a Master at whatever you specialization is.

Yes, but then aren't we all supposed to be attempting to do that with the life we've been given and that can be taken without a moment's notice?

If one got sure a great influence, it will be better for one to stay alive unless you are referring to Neo from the movie Matrix which did not have a choice.

yes. because either way, it's a lose-lose situation for me. if i don't give up my life, and the human race (which would include myself) suffer or die, then there's no point in trying to stay alive. on the other hand, to save mankind, i'd have to give up my life.
