I'm not into graphics or design, but then I'm not particularly into the latest games either so I'm not really being pulled either way. I mostly watch movies, emails,WP, P2P and torrent share and listen to music on iTunes. Am about to buy my first iPod if it makes any difference. Has anyone recently converted from PCs to Mac's who could share their experience? Cheers!

I went from PC to mac a couple of months ago and ended up wondering why i didn't do that earlier in my life? (I'm only 22, but I'm deeply in love with mac OS)
Mac OS it's not only more attractive, but simpler and more fun to work with. I discovered myself saying "wow" every 5 minutes for the first 2 weeks. It's prettier that any other notebook and it's easier to use.
You have to try one, and you'll never buy a PC again. Now I'm thinking about buying a mac mini

For better or worse, the World is PC and Apple is a very minor player on the scene. While the Apple used to offer some benefits in terms of Graphics/ and DTP, the PC caught up and passed it at least five years ago. My major gripe with Apple is the cost of parts, repairs, peripherals, software [lack off] and support. A local dealer, now long gone, wanted £95 to repair a floppy disc drive. A similar NEW drive for a PC was £14. In the final analysis, the choice is down not to the technical merits of each system but the preconceived views people have regarding each 'camp'.

James

95% of the computer users use PCs, therefore most of the programs you find on P2P and torrent shares will only have windows setup files. Also if you use your laptop a lot, on local networks for example there will be times when youll have compatibility issues when sharing files and information. Why would anyone choose to be less compatible with the rest of the world, I dont know.
I wouldnt suggest anyone to spend their money on iPods either. Get yourself an MP4 player (video player). They all play mp3's too. iPod video looks good but the screen is too small, unwatchable.

Apple offers some real advantages, But the wicked truth is MicroSoft controls the software environment of the P.C. i don't see Apple overthrowing Microsoft until the next wave of computer technology gets unveiled. Beware the ability to run MS-XP on the MAc, remember Mac's system architecture is diffirent from P.C. , You still cant make a MAC a P.C. it's a novelty only!

Grudgingly accepting existence as an inconvenience, and treating it as such, fairly than embracing it as a contemporary. i'm no longer an "optimist," because of the fact i do no longer in user-friendly terms assume the final... in fact, I constantly purpose my optimal, yet anticipate something extremely worse than certainty. it is not that i'm constantly happy. that's that I settle for my melancholy as a fact of existence, and that there is often the following day. And day after today, and day after today... and the fact that I extremely have continuously to stay isn't frightening and looming anymore. that's acceptable, and finished of threat. the fact that those opportunities will possibly no longer come actual isn't a tragic thought to me; it means that i will daydream regarding the destiny continuously. Oh, and scarcity of existence my dazzling crimson hair black. Then bleaching my fugly black hair, turning it into an evermore fugly orange. My hair is so broken and nasty =/

Both have their advantages but in you're case it sounds like it wouldnt hurt you to go for the Mac. These days PC's and Mac's are about equal in their pros and cons. The risk is low is what i'm tryin to say. (except for mac support!) gross + expensive compared to PC

I love my iBook, it's great for design, soething that unfortunately you appear not to be into! It does have drawbacks on limited software (although if you aren't a gamer this is also irrelevant!!)
Watching DVDs doesnt vary really no matter what you watch them on, and for searching the web there is little variation.
iTunes is the same.

it's possible to install Win XP on all the most recent Macs, so even if you don't get on with OSX (which is excellent by the way) at least you can go back to the "dark side".
