tell the truth.. but you don't have to go into detail on the application if it asks you should put " will discuss at interview" there is always the possibility of them calling to check what you put on your application

Nice question Sensual Chocolate. I actually got fired about 3 years ago. During the interview, I told the employer the truth, that I didnt resign, but got fired. You know, I got the job, and I still have that job. I guess it helped that the firing wasnt over an ethical reason. Your employer will appreciate your honesty and will look at your admission as a sign of integrity - a prized trait in the corporate jungle

I've been there. I put that my contract not renewed. Was it your fault? It's important to never bad mouth the last company that you worked for. Be brief on your application when putting your reason and be prepared to go into detail if more information is needed at the interview. When explaining try not to make yourself or the company look bad.

They can't by law say exactly why you were let go and they can't say anything personal about you, nor can your potential employer ask... but that doesn't mean it never happens.

I would give a basic general explination, not too much detail. Everyone get's fired at least once. Don't use that word though, soften the edges with things like "Let go." or dismissed.

I wouldn't lie, because like I said, they can't ask and they can't tell but that really never stops anyone from doing both.

I left my one dissmissal off my resume for years until the company went belly up (giggles... har har hardy har har) now I just say whatever I feel like saying because their is no one around to despute it. *winks!

It depends. If you were fired due to interpersonal conflict or some other trifling reason, then just say you quit, which you certainly did--as soon as they fired you!

If you committed grand larceny or crashed the boss's car or lost the biggest customer, I don't know what to tell ya.

Be honest. If you lie and they find out, you will have trouble forever when you go job-hunting.
If you got fired from for a fast food place, Home Depot, or Walmart, it is likely that nobody will ever hold it against you.
They are notorious for hiring and firing.

Just say "laid off"...these days, companies are so worried about lawsuits that they will not give an ex employee a bad rap. Dont worry. You must have one freind at that last place,,,use that person as a refference.

By the same token, companies dotn wat to give favorable reportsd either...if you turn out to be a thief, then the new comapny might sue the old one..its a crazy world.

Be honest about it! If they call your last employer, they'll find out anyway. Whatever the reason, make sure future employers know that you acknowledge the issue and that you are improving yourself and that it won't happen again. Let them know you learned from your mistake (if it was your fault.)

well , there was a conflict of interest they wanted you gone and you wanted to keep your job. neither side would budge so you had to "quit" , right?
