Try starting her on the side she doesn't like first. That usually worked for me.

Three ounces of milk is actually an unusually large volume of milk to pump as most lactating moms are only able to pump only .5 - 2 oz at a time!

Your supply sounds great, honestly. And since your baby is more effecient at removing milk from your breasts than a pump is, you can be assured that she is getting enough.

You can also continue to feed her only on one side indefinitely, although if you can get her to latch on the second side with a nipple shield, it would be to your benefit since you wouldn't be lopsided.

I had trouble feeding from one side as well, so I would use the football hold and it worked well for both of us. If you want to feed from both, you'll have to get her to practise on the one she's least comfortable with, try feeding the football hold on that side, or even both if you find it easier like I did., and hopefully that will help. If you just want to feed from one side that's okay too, but it sounds like milk supply is not the issue since you can pump so much..Good for you !

3 ounces is VERY good! Even after nursing for 3 months, I could only get an ounce out. Remember babies are more effective at getting the milk out so don't worry about your supply. Also, your supply isn't fully established until 6 weeks, so you have plenty of time.

Try and eat a bowl of oatmeal a day and drink LOTS of water. It'll keep both you nurished.

Congrats on your baby girl!

3 oz from one breast? That's actually pretty good! What kind of pump are you using?

Have you tried pumping on the side she doesn't like long enough to draw out the nipple and have a letdown and see if she'll latch on then?

Check out the links below for good info.

The more she is latched on the more milk you will produce even if she is not drinking milk, pretty much she will use it as pacifier, now you need to practice on her latching,it takes a little time for some baby's but they get it,try to tickle her side of the mouth and when she opens wide put the aerola in there and make sure her lips are not tucked in.best wishes.

If your daughter won't latch on to the other breast you really need to put her on it anyways don't do this to you self. My son did the same thing. When it came to feeding him he wouldn't latched on to my right breast. So when it cam to feeding him I just started making him get on the right one first It took about 3 or 4 days and he started latching on more and then doing it right. I understand why you might just put he on the one because its so much easier, But she'll do it if you stay with it she will have to latch on to eat. So I know she can do it!!!! Just tryand do thjat for a few days and if you do get her latching on then your breast milk should come in more! Good Luck!

3 ounces is good. Don't try to measure you breastmilk against a formula mix. Your pump is not as efficient as your daughter's ability to suck. Talk to an LC about the latching issue. Could you have overactive letdown on that side? Or and inverted nipple? An LC could answer this and advise you on a solution.
Good luck.

3 ounces of milk is normal, actually pretty good for one week after having a baby. Pumping every 2-3 hours on a regular basis , drink plenty of water, continue taking your pre-natal vitamins, eat healthy, get as much rest as possible. All of these things should help.

Babies generally prefer one breast to the other, its normal.

You can try keeping her the same direction when she's nursing the other breast, by using the football hold.

You can also contact your hospital at anytime and come in, they'll help you get her latched on to the other side, and give you advice about keeing up production.

Congrats on the baby! I know you were waiting FOREVER, i remember all your questions! lol, you finally made it!

3 ounces is just fine, honest. You're ok. Just keep it up. I took some type of fennel or fenugreek herb and it helped with the flow. Research the herbs and don't stop.
I breastfed 4 kids. 3 oz in the beginning is plenty.
