Personally I think his statements agains psychiatry, his stance that psychiatry is a pseudo-science, and his denial of there being chemical imbalances within peoples brains capable of causing mental illness are ill-informed, offensive and irresponsible. But that is my thought, what of yourself?

I think Cruise needs psychiatric evaluation

I agree. He has no real knowledge of the subjects he purports to be an expert about. He seems to think that reading some pamphlets, brochures and maybe a medical article gives him a PhD in psychiatry. He has said that chemical imbalance can be cured with diet and excercise. right. The chemicals in the body are hormones and if they are imblanced, something is wrong. By his thinking, I should have been able to eat and excercise my way out of infertility because it was caused from a severe hormonal imbalance that prevented the proper thing from happening at the right time. We would get to see how his views change if he would stay with a woman long enough for her to get to menopause and begin suffering from the hormonal changes that take place. But since he is sleeping with an child young enough to be his daughther, we may never know.
Any one that can jump on couch and act like a loon on national television and then turn around and make such asinine statements should not be given any credence on any subject. If only he were as bright as his fake looking teeth.

He's a nut case.
As are most Scientologists.
There has to be something funda"mentally" wrong with a person who outright dismisses scientific evidence.
Is is a pseudo-science? NO.
Do they KNOW what they are doing? NO.
Does any physician KNOW what they are doing? NO.
That's why it's called practicing medicine.
New "things" are being discovered EVERY DAY.
They now have a better understanding of why different people react differently to the same medication.
Do they know how to make it work yet? NO.

If he wants to call Psychiatry a pseudo-science, he might as well call all science pseudo-science, since all science is subject to change based upon new or revealing evidence. That's how science works!

Tommy -- get a life and come out of the closet!

I think anyone who is part of a cult like Scientology doesn't deserve to be listened to. I also think anyone who is an incredibly famous person like Tom Cruise doesn't really live a normal life or in the realm of reality so of course his views on psychiatry and the world in general are going to be distorted by his gigantic ego and his abnormal lifestyle. Finally I think that someone who doesn't have a medical qualification specifically in the field of psychiatry has no right to talk about psychiatry like he fully understands it or is more understanding of it than those who are qualified psychiatrists. What will Tom Cruise do if he or his fiance Katie Holmes or any of his children develop a mental illness? Who will he have to turn to? Oh that's right - psychiatrists.

Personally I think his opinions were formed from events rumored to have taken place when his ex-wife (Nicole, the Hottie he couldn't keep up with) visited a famous mid-west institution for some help with a problem with an anti-depressant. This hospital was very well known for years by the rich and famous but very private. Rumor has it that Tommy went out to a local adult beverage establishment and, shall we say, was knocked off his high horse by some local "Real" tough guys. Poor Tommy crawled out and back to his closet at a home owned by Paul Newman in a near by upper end area of the city. So, I can see how a bruised head and ego could sway his opinion of psychiatry. Especially when you were just wanting a bump in the dark. Poor Katie! Tom's outburst remind me of Macbeth! The Lady doth protest too much!

I agree. I don't believe that his comments come from an informed source on psychology/psychiatry and are merely an opinion based on his religious beliefs. I think that he is irresponsible giving false information regarding something that he has not studied or practised, especially since he has the potential to influence fans. I think he just finished high school and last time I checked, Psychology/Psychiatry was not a subject. Having an opinion is fine, but broadcasting it as fact is wrong.

I think that his behaviour has become more and more bizarre in recent months (years?). I blame his Scientology beliefs; talk about Church of the Poisoned Mind.

However, John Travolta belongs to the same church and apart from that terrible film he made, he doesn't seem as "barmy".

Why should anyone take any notice of what Tom Cruise thinks anyway? He's not a doctor of medicine (or anything), as far as I know.

Everyone should just ignore him and then he might SHUT UP.

And for the record, I've always thought he was creepy.

Psychiatry can help--but it's not gonna do it, for some. There are meds that actually can restore balance to the brain chemicals.
Why worry about what TC says? He has given up the true religion, for a false one, so he hasn't much credibility.

He is in denial, because if he agrees with psychiatry as a scince and all the stuff then he would realize that he need to go see a psychatrist because he is a case of study. otherwise I cannot explain his behavior ( divorcing a great woman, jumping on coaches on TV, hiding a daughter, and The Scientology thing)

He's DYSLEXIC and he wants to give advice about psychiatry! He probably has some deep seeded hatred of therapists. Okay fine, people have opinions but his are DANGEROUS because someone will actually listen to him. He thinks just because he is with someone who can say big words, Katie Holmes, he may be looked upon as smart.... Come one, no one is that stupid, his star is a falling!

I could care less what the M-Fker thinks or says.my life doesent revolve around his opinions any way . people need to wake up and stop putting celebrity's opinions or anything to view. He is nothing more than a F^cking rich over payed actor, who clearly thinks hes godlike and thinks anyone will listen to him because he studies Scientology.and the reason he doesn't like psychiatry is because he needs one... badly.
