We are from South Texas, and not used to cold weather.

I guess if you are from Texas, Seattle would be considered cold in January. (I'm from Michigan, so I think it's warm) Funny how, perspectives can be so different! :)

That said...

There are alot of great indoor activities. Regardless of the weather, I'd still recommend going to Pike Place Market. It's great and many of the shops are indoors.

You could still tour the waterfront shops & go out for seafood, as well. The aquarium is mostly indoors and we go there often in the winter months.

There are many museums here, depending on your interests:
Museum of Flight
Asian Art Museum
(Seattle Art Museum is closed for construction)
MOHAI - Museum of History & Industry
Pacific Science Center
Experience Music Project/Science Fiction Museum
or the Space Needle!!

You might also enjoy just shopping near Westlake Center or going to a few shows (we have great theatre here and I don't mean movies!)

Whatever you decide, have a good time...Seattle is a great city, if you can look past the dreary winter weather. Hopefully, you'll have a chance to see it in the summer someday...when it's most beautiful!

It is usually dark and rainy in Seattle in January, but freezing weather is pretty rare. Low 40's, maybe upper 30's. Much worse in other parts of the country! The Music Experience Museum is indoors. You can ride the ferries and see the sights and stay warm. Downtown has lots of good shopping and restaurants. And for sports fans, the Seattle Sonics are still here, as are the Totem hockey team. Bring a warm coat and an umbrella!

Anywhere I go, I always like to visit and checkout as much as I can, regardless of the weather. Check to see what the temperatures will be, and I would then just recommend bringing a coat and other suitable clothing (long sleeve shirts, pants, gloves, a hat, plenty of socks, and good thick pair of shoes/boots). Since your trip is in Jan., you'll have plenty of time to get the appropriate apparel if you don't have them. Though it may be different to you in respect to the temperature, you aren't gonna freeze to death. There is a lot to see in Seattle if it is your first time there. Enjoy yourself while you are there rather than staying inside the entire trip.

It's really not that cold. I haven't seen snow in Seattle for quite a few years now. Just bring a sweatshirt and a RAIN jacket. That should be fine from November to April.

TEATRO ZINZANNI -----this is the best!!! I loved it.

"Teatro ZinZanni is a big night out unlike any other, a three-hour whirlwind of international cirque, comedy and cabaret artists all served up with a five-course feast designed by celebrated Northwest chef Tom Douglas."

Silly Texan, Seattle doesn't freeze. it rains. bring an umbrella, and hope that your son doesn't come back in a body bag.
