There is a 6" 'gap' between the garage door and the carport. I want to close the gap and make it as one.

They must of done this because of water runoff from roof and the pitch and I could name alot of other reasons. To fill in the gap, I would fit a 1X8 (?) flat and somewhere in the middle of the 1X I would screw to it sideways straight down the middle a 2X4. By sideways I mean the way you eye a board for straightness. Drop it in and proceed to add flashing and rainguard. I also would be tempted to caulk where the 1X is next to the garage. The info I picked up about flashing and runoff is to use copper. I would also be tempted to coat the boards with transmission fluid mixed with mineral spirits and diazon. This would guard against bugs and water damage. Good Luck

how about using the carport left over metal material to secure against the house - secure with metal non rust bolts - you can then discuise the area with a trellis with flowering vines - you can also paint the metal carport material with a non-rust paint that matches your exterior of your home, it will make the home appear a bit larger
