I have noticed that many of the new cars do not have an outside keyed lock on the passenger side door. Why is this? Is this feature still available on new cars? I know that keyless entry systems and power door locks have become more reliable in recent years, however, I still would like to have manual control over my doors if I choose.

Passengers do not normally have the keys to the car.

As mentioned, it is a cost saving feature that does make sense because very rarely does one unlock a door from the passenger side. Likewise, the locks are omitted from rear doors. You still have manual control over unlocking the passenger side door but you must be inside the car to do so.
