You know... I've heard the same thing about termites, and that's not true either.
No, sperm does not die if they touch air. In the right circumstances, sperm can live for several days. In poor circumstances (like sitting on a table), they will die quickly.
Semen and vaginal fluids are liquid for a reason - so sperm can swim to their destination. Remember that sperm are microscopic, so it doesn't take a lot of liquid. This means that there does not have to be penetration for the sperm to get inside and hunt for an egg. You can also contract a STD this way.
Now for the semi-good news. You cannot get pregnant all throughout your cycle. When you release an egg (most of the time, once per cycle, about 2 weeks before your period starts up), it is only alive for about a day. So if sperm live for 5 days, and an egg for 1, there is only about a 6 day window where you can become pregnant each cycle.
That is not a free license to be sexually active. It is a very dangerous game to have sex (all kinds of sex) without protection, and without understanding your body. I suggest you look for the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility to begin understanding how your body works.
If you are underage (even if you are not), I REALLY suggest you slow down and learn to say "no." Your life is worth a lot more than making a boy/man happy once.
Best of Luck to you!

lol...in a parenting class i took in high school, my teacher told us that, that is not possible. Sperm can not actually travel. When you are done with intercourse, just wash very well. But you can not get pregnant, unless the sperm is ejaculated inside the vagina. And yes, sperm does die if it comes in contact with the air. Even if the sperm is inside the vagina, it only survives for 7 hours. I hope that helps.

Wow...Umm no sperm lasts up to 5 days in the vagina. And yes you can get pregnant if sperm touches the vagina, its a very very very VERY slim chance you would get pregnant though. Sperm does travel, if they didnt they wouldnt be able to make it up to the uterus to fertilize the egg. It does die when it touches air.
