I've heard these words thrown around a lot, so I was just wondering what the criteria were.

Nothing, the only reason why people say things like that to people is because that person their teasing or calling names is smarter than him or her. Another reason is because they may not be as popular as them I think its cruel to call people outside of their names and that they should ignore the people that is bothering them.

Naming all of the "secondary" characters from Star Wars (like Wedge, Bosk, R5D4 etc....) Or knowing when the Space shuttle is landing (tomorrow)

I call my husband a nerd, and that is because he prefers collecting action figures, comic books, and computer programming over social interaction. Nothing wrong with it exactly, I just joke with him about it.
