Because there is never only a single answer, no matter how simple the question is. With more than 6 billion people in our world, you're always guaranteed at least more than one answer.

Sometimes, we just want to test other people's knowledge about what we know. Other people do it to get the assurance that what they know is correct. And sometimes, just like at Yahoo Answers, to know more answerers more especially those with honest and matured opinions about things.
